November 23 - we went to 三義 (Sān-yì), a city in the county 苗栗縣 (Miáo-lì-xiàn), and parked next to 三義木雕博物館 (Sān-yì-mù-diāo-bó-wù-guǎn) - Wood Sculpture Museum - more on this later. Next to the entrance, there was a small trail that we decided to hike up. Along the way, we came across a tea field in a clearing. Tea is often grown in higher altitudes in Chinese cultures. The tea field, as I understand it, was a local volunteer tea field. So a bunch of people in the community would volunteer at this tea field in their spare time - growing the plants, picking the leaves, and making tea for random travelers as they passed through. Sort of like a local tea co-op.
