For fans, the days drag by, with only news of hirings and firings breaking up the monotony. But for general managers, there's plenty of work to do. The offseason is when a top-notch GM really earns his money. It is their time to analyze the past season, to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their clubs and to make plans for the next season. Future champions will lay much of the groundwork for their success during the next few months.

The General Manager was quoted as saying the club needs a lot of things, beginning with a new skipper. "He did the best he could, but we just did not see the improvement needed to get our team in the upper echelon in this league. The time was right for us to part company."
No word on who will be the new Greensboro manager, although club sources say the list is short.

The Blasters will go with an interim manager until candidates can be interviewed.
Meanwhile, despite the firing, Aguirre has already been mentioned as a future managerial candidate around the league, where more than a few managers are on the hot seat. | |
