| Breaking News | | Saturday, August 2nd, 2025: Great Day for Ross! 5 Hits! 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book. Win or lose you get listed.
Will Ross got his name in the record book, but the Herkimer Cobras picked up the win, topping the Akron Henchmen 5-4.
"Sure, I would have much preferred to win the game, but that's not how it came out. In baseball you win some, lose some and some get rained out," the Akron first baseman expressed his feelings during the postgame press conference.
He certainly did his part today, pounding out hit after hit.
Later in the clubhouse Ross spoke further about his big game, "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime day. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Ross delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day that will be good scrapbook material.
W. Ross singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This season in 57 games, Ross has hit at a .398 clip with 49 hits, 4 home runs, 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored. | | Sunday, July 27th, 2025: Tolliver Mystifies Chaffee Speaking after the game, the Akron manager said, "Rodney Tolliver had everything going for him. He controlled their bat speed, stayed down, had a lot of movement... he had it all...masterful."
Tolliver held the Chaffee Blacksmiths to 3 hits and fashioned a fine 11-0 shutout. He had 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in the game.
"We couldn't get anything going. He certainly had our number," the Chaffee skipper told reporters.
In 19 starts this season Tolliver has fashioned a 9-6 record and a 5.05 ERA. | | Monday, July 21st, 2025: Big Stick Wins SL2 Trophy Akron fans had a lot to cheer about this week as first baseman Will Ross brought home the Sub League 2 Player of the Week trophy.
