| Breaking News |  | Thursday, December 18th, 2025: Long and Heeffer Traded The Pittsburgh Pirates have finalized a deal with the Florida Marlins for the services of 30-year old starting pitcher Barend Heeffer. In exchange, the Marlins will receive 26-year old first baseman Millard Long.
Long has a career .303 average with 451 hits, 101 doubles, 11 triples, 44 home runs, 251 RBIs and scored 221 runs to date.
Since coming into the league, Heeffer has a 59-89 mark and a 4.60 ERA. The 30-year-old hurler also has struck out 777 batters in 1224 innings and permitted 1287 hits. |  | Thursday, October 2nd, 2025: Super Swinger! López Slams 6 Hits! The Cubs whipped the Pirates 8-6 at Wrigley Field and Carlos López had a big hand in the win. The Cubs center fielder came to the plate 6 times and collected 6 hits. It was a good day for López and a tough day for Pittsburgh.
"I just go up there and whale away and hope it hits the barrel of the bat," he said. "There really isn't any plan."
Plan or not, López delivered today -- 6-6 is outstanding in any league.
C. López singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off J. Knight in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 11th.
Presently López is batting .289 with 168 hits and 10 home runs. He has knocked in 76 runs and scored 76 times. |  | Friday, September 12th, 2025: Perneta Out for 1-2 Weeks The Pittsburgh Pirates were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Dimiăo Perneta was likely to be out for 1-2 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Houston Astros. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a strained back muscle. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Pittsburgh manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Dimiăo is back in action."
So far in 26 starts this season, Perneta has recorded 5 wins and sustained 9 losses.
