"Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Camden's Cristóbal González told reporters after the game. "No offense meant to Camden, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Blasters Ballpark! I'm just not too happy that we lost 13-11"
The Madison third baseman had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 7 at-bats.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Luwen worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," de Smet said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it. It sure did work today."
L. de Smet flied out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th, struck out in the 10th and hit a three-run home run off L. Gómez in the 11th.
