At Valiants Ballpark Allen Symons was the King of Swing today in the 7-1 win over the Blizzards.
The Corpus Christi left fielder stepped into the batter's box 8 times against the Huntington Beach and delivered 5 hits.
It was a sensational game for him. He excitedly told the press, "Unbelieveable feeling. Unbelieveable. It felt good. It felt great. What a day! 5 for 8! It does wonders for your batting average, too."
A. Symons grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off R. Rico in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 10th, flied out in the 12th, flied out in the 14th and hit an RBI single in the 15th.
This season Symons has banged out 67 hits in 309 at-bats for a .217 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .321 pace and his totals also include 25 RBIs and 54 runs scored.

It was a parade of hits for Luis Cortéz of the Huntington Beach Blizzards...one right after another...a total of 5 for the day. He ravaged the Modesto Speed Demons for 5 hits in his 6 at-bats and propelled the Blizzards to a 7-5 victory.
"Cortéz was really good and we were really bad," groaned the Speed Demons manager. "Next time he's that hot, we'll just walk him."
L. Cortéz singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and hit a two-run home run off J. Acevedo in the 11th.
This season in 93 games Cortéz is batting .328 with 14 home runs, 90 RBIs and has scored 76 times.

"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.
Well, good pitching also beats bad batting.
In his postgame interview the Huntington Beach manager said, "Clinton Merritt made us look real bad today. He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."
Merritt had 2 strikeouts, 2 walks and allowed only 5 hits as the Toledo Mountain Ducks whitewashed the Huntington Beach Blizzards 5-0.
