| Breaking News | | Tuesday, May 27th, 2025: Sánchez Strokes 5 Hits 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book. Win or lose you get listed.
Raúl Sánchez got his name in the record book, but the Corpus Christi Valiants picked up the win, topping the Laredo Blaze 12-11.
"Sure, I would have much preferred to win the game, but that's not how it came out. In baseball you win some, lose some and some get rained out," the Laredo left fielder expressed his feelings during the postgame press conference.
He certainly did his part today, pounding out hit after hit.
Later in the clubhouse Sánchez spoke further about his big game, "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime day. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Sánchez delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats, a day that will be good scrapbook material.
R. Sánchez doubled in the 2nd, flied out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off J. Unknown in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This season Sánchez has 6 home runs and a .274 batting average. | | Friday, May 16th, 2025: Nolan Records Shutout Against Mountain Ducks Sherwood Nolan of the Laredo Blaze was one tough customer on the hill today. He blanked the Toledo Mountain Ducks 12-0 on 3 hits, registering 4 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"When he's on, he's tough to hit," said the Toledo manager after the game. "He's just a bulldog out there."
So far this season Nolan has a record of 1-2 with 24 strikeouts and 19 walks in 36.2 innings and a 3.44 ERA. | | Wednesday, July 17th, 2024: Martínez at His Best, Whips Warthogs A masterful pitching performance carried the Laredo Blaze to a 7-0 victory over Saint Petersburg. Jesús Martínez held them scoreless in a complete game effort. He permitted 6 hits, had 7 strikeouts and allowed 2 walks.
The skipper of the Warthogs said, "Martínez was sharp. We never did figure him out."
So far this season Martínez has 10 wins and 6 losses and a 4.02 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 57-63, .475 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 8.0 GB | | Record at home | 27-33, .450 PCT | | Record on the road | 30-30, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-4, .429 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 15-21, .417 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 9-12, .429 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 48-51, .485 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in May | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in June | 10-15, .400 PCT | | Record in July | 18-11, .621 PCT | | Record in August | 2-7, .222 PCT |
