"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
And that's what Tex Wood did as he led the Showstoppers to a 11-0 shutout victory over the Skyknights.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Jersey City manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Wood yielded 4 hits and had 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in a standout performance.
Checking out his stats for the season, Wood has notched 8 wins and 11 losses in 25 starts, 4.31 ERA and struck out 55 batters in 158.2 innings.

 | Friday, August 1st, 2025: Sheng Awarded July's SL2 Top Bat Prize
Zhi-jun Sheng picked up the top batter prize in the Sub League 2 for July.
The Jersey City third baseman hit .500 with 2 home runs, 27 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He also drew 12 walks to post an OBP of .548.
Thus far this year Sheng has hit .388 with 2 home runs and 37 RBIs.

 | Tuesday, June 24th, 2025: Big Day with Bat, Sandoval 5-6
Mauro Sandoval was on fire today and sparked his club to a 17-1 victory over the Skyknights. The Akron center fielder was a tough out and went 5 for 6 against Jersey City in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in."
M. Sandoval hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
So far this season Sandoval has hit .337 with 11 home runs, 57 RBIs and and scored 61 times.
